Homemade Gatorade

We love homemade rehydration drinks.  We live in a sunny state and we are outside a lot.  We make a healthy alternative to the sugary sports drinks on the market.  So we make a few.

1. This recipe is floating around the internet.  I have used this when the boys are sick and it works nicely.

1 quart (950 ml) water
½ teaspoon (2.5 g) baking soda
½ teaspoon (2.5 g) sea salt
3 to 4 tablespoons sugar (or honey/maple syrup)

optional: lemon juice

2. The rehydration drink I make and love is packed w/ probiotics, antioxidants, potassium, calcium, and other minerals. No HFCS.  No food dye.

1 cup Organic Grape Juice (4th ranked fruit for antioxidant content)

1/2 cup whey (liquid from grassfed yogurt)

1 cup Filtered water

Pour 3 ingredients together in a mason jar.  Keep in refrigerator. That’s it!  Sometimes I increase the whey, but just remember that it helps to clean out toxins so start slow if you are not used to it.

Simple. Tastes great. Healthy.

If you want to buy organic sports drinks, check out this site.  These are the highest quality sports drinks on the market (that I have found).  We love these too.
