Natural Remedy for Sinus Infections

Colloidal Silver (the brand I buy)

We have been hit with the preschool “superbugs” lately.  It is not surprising that my boys get sick around Halloween.  They go to a preschool that has Halloween parties full of candy, juice, and processed cookies.  I love their preschool (by the way), just not their food policies…. which is similar to all other preschools.  On top of all the sugar from preschool, we live in a neighborhood that is full of trick or treaters and lots of Halloween activity.  I don’t have the heart to shut down the Halloween candy program.  What I did: I let the boys trick or treat, then they could eat a few pieces of candy, and finally I let them exchange their candy for a new toy.  My 4 year old picked out cool walkie talkies.  He had no problem trading all his candy for a great toy! Happy Mommy 🙂

Back to the “superbugs”.  The boys have been on and off sick with upper respiratory infections…. and I knew that I needed to watch out.  It would only be a matter of time.  Then we headed out of town for a football game and the little buggers started to move in on me.  Plus, our SUPERDAD (my high energy husband) stayed home! Not great for me and as a result our diet went a little south.  There is only so much homemade food I can pack for a 4 day trip.  I did pretty good the first 2 days, but by the third day I started to get a little tired and run down.  And then, BAMM!

The sinus infection moved in.  TMI… I had so much phlegm and drainage.  At one point my ears were totally plugged.  After about 2 days I started to focus on me (which is rare)!  I was reading about sinus infections and a few natural doctors mentioned (online) using colloidal silver as a nasal spray.  I actually had the spray bottle version (on hand) of Colloidal Silver for scrapes and cuts… and I thought- what the heck…. it can’t get much worse.  I was about to go to bed sitting up (due to the mucus and congestion) and I pulled out my bottle and sprayed the silver up each nostril.  I repeated this 4 times (30 minutes apart).  After 2 hours, I started to feel a little better and I was able to lie down (and not have to sit up).  That was a huge improvement for me.  Next morning I was 80-90 percent better!  I was shocked by my improvement.  Here is a little information about colloidal silver and natural healing from Natural News.

“Colloidal silver is a safe and effective topical method to fight infections.  Colloidal silver can safely and inexpensively protect you from infection in a wide variety of ways: “Topically, it can be used to fight fungal infections of the skin or nails and to promote the healing of burns, wounds, cuts, rashes, and sunburn. It can be used on toothaches and mouth sores, as eye drops and as a gargle to fight tooth decay and bad breath. It can also be used as sterilizer and can even be sprayed on air-conditioning filters and air ducts and vents to prevent germs from growing.” In addition to those found in air conditioning vents, germs make many other aspects of our environment both unhealthy and bad-smelling. Colloidal silver, as a powerful antibiotic and antifungal agent, can make your environment just as healthy as it can make your body.

Taken internally, colloidal silver can be used to fight infection. It has been shown to be effective against more that 650 disease-causing organisms, including Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria and the fungus Candida albicans,” writes Dr. James F. and Phyllis A. Balch. As you may remember from the hamburger scares of the 1990s, E. coli infections can be deadly, especially among young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. In this sense, colloidal silver is a lifesaver: When all else fails, it can beat infections presumed unbeatable. It is under these extreme conditions that patients may justifiably consider using colloidal silver internally — but only under the direction of a qualified health practitioner such as a naturopath.”

Is Colloidal Silver safe?

“According to many sources, it is not dangerous to use colloidal silver internally, as long as you take it in the recommended, reasonable dosages. This means using the colloidal silver product as directed and not taking it for more than two weeks at a time, according to Janet Zand in Smart Medicine for Healthier Living.

You don’t have to be afraid of genuine colloidal silver. There are a multitude of safe and effective colloidal silver products on the market, so be sure to research what you use before you use it and, by all means, use it as recommended on the label. As a side note, some colloidal silver companies claim that colloidal silver is an anti-cancer agent. According to Dan Labriola’sComplementary Cancer Therapies, “There is no reliable human evidence that this (colloidal silver) is an effective cancer treatment.” But as a broad-spectrum antibiotic, colloidal silver is well proven.”

Along with using colloidal silver, I started using essential oils in the evening before going to bed and throughout the day.  The recommended essential oils for sinus infections are:

Tea Tree Oil

I suggest using a few drops in your bath at night, in a humidifier, or added to a carrier oil (like coconut oil) and massage into your hands or feet.  I am really seeing great results with my essential oils.  You can buy essential oils at your health food store, Whole Foods, and many other places.

A sinus infection can be a miserable experience and it can last a long time!  So this is great news for me and anyone else that suffers from these infections.  I used the colloidal silver spray bottle a few more times (the following day) and within another 24 hours I was 90 percent better.  Make sure you follow the dosing guidelines and buy a recommended brand of silver.  I picked mine up from the local health food store.
